Geneva, 3 August, 2026.- The Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, Ben Saul, will conduct a country visit to Mozambique from 4 to 14 August 2026.
During the visit, Saul will have the opportunity to engage with Government authorities and a broad range of stakeholders on Mozambique’s efforts to address the challenges posed by terrorism while promoting human rights and the rule of law.
The Special Rapporteur will examine the country’s legal, policy and institutional frameworks related to countering terrorism, including criminal justice, measures to counter terrorist financing, and security operations. He will also seek to better understand the impact of terrorism on affected communities, including victims of terrorism, their families, and internally displaced persons, as well as underlying factors that may contribute to terrorism.
Saul will hold a press conference on Friday 14 August in Maputo at 13:00 local time at the OHCHR premises, Kim Il Sung Avenue, Number 974, Maputo. Access will be strictly limited to journalists.
The Special Rapporteur will present his report to the Human Rights Council in March 2027.
