Washington, April 11, 2023.- Today, Secretary Austin called Israel’s Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, to offer his condolences for the deaths of two Israeli-British citizens in the West Bank and an Italian tourist in Tel Aviv in terror attacks yesterday and to convey his support for Israel following rocket attacks emanating from Lebanon and the Gaza Strip that injured Israeli civilians. The Secretary underscored his support for Israel’s security against all threats.
Secretary Austin also urged steps to ensure calm and a peaceful holiday period for Jews, Muslims, and Christians. The Secretary welcomed efforts to de-escalate tensions and emphasized the importance of refraining from unilateral actions that exacerbate tensions.
Secretary Austin wished Minister Gallant a happy Passover and the two leaders agreed to remain in close coordination.
